Wildcats fall to TC Central; Onaway finds a way to edge Joburg

ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena Wildcats boys basketball team played a hard fought game on Thursday, but couldn’t hold on as they fell to Traverse City Central 58-52. With the loss, the Wildcats have lost four of their first five games.

Cooper Bright led the Wildcats in the scoring department with 25 points. Alpena (1-4) will look to bounce back on Saturday as they will hit the road to battle the Blue Devils of Sault Ste. Marie (1-3).

ONAWAY, Mich. — Kevin Pearson, Jager Mix, and the Onaway Cardinals boys basketball team found a way to take down their rivals, beating Johannesburg-Lewiston 54-52. Pearson paced Onaway in scoring with 21 points. Mix added 16 points and Spencer Nash finished with 11 points.

Preston Marlatt led Johannesburg-Lewiston with 15 points. Logan May contributed with 10 points and Jordan Crane finished with eight points.

This Saturday, Onaway (2-2) will head to Rogers City (1-2) to battle the Hurons. Meanwhile, Johannesburg-Lewiston (2-2) will look to get back to their winning ways as they’ll host Gaylord St. Mary (4-0) on Feb. 23.
