Wildcats accomplish first time goals as Alpena tops Tawas

Aidan Day hits his first header against Tawas. (September 4, 2018)

Alpena — The Wildcats hosted the Tawas Braves on Tuesday for a boys soccer match-up. The green and white took the early 5-1 lead at halftime. Senior Aidan Day and sophomore Grant Botha had a 3-goal hat trick. Deven Saranen and Caleb Eaton also added goals.

It was a special day of firsts at the game: a lost cockatiel flew to the stadium looking for it’s owners, Botha shot his first hat-trick and Day scored his first header.

“I’ve always wanted a header,” said Day. “Obviously I’m not the tallest guy, so it’s very exciting to get one.Instead of one person just getting all of the goals, it’s team effort.”

Tawas’ Joshua Maynard added the lone goal for the Braves in the first half and Alpena won 8-1.

The (5-2) Wildcats take their game on the road Thursday at Traverse City Central at 6 p.m.
