WHITTEMORE, Mich.– The Whittemore Chamber of Commerce ran their first snowmobile race on Saturday.
Chamber president Pauline Fern told WBKB people from across the state came to compete in and view the races. The competition centered on vintage snowmobiles, meaning models from 1984 or older. Competitors raced in over 27 categories based on vehicle size and model.
Fern says the most thrilling moment of the day came when a competitor spun out on the track.
Another highlight of the day was the kids’ race. The racetrack itself was the result of a year of volunteer work.
Fern says the chamber plans to use it for events in other seasons.
