Wet weather rolls in Wednesday afternoon; Very warm through Thursday

Sunshine today is fading away as high pressure drifts off to the east. A pair of low pressure systems will influence our weather over the next couple of days. One of these low pressure system is located over northern Minnesota, and the other is near the Colorado-Nebraska border.

A warm front lifting through Michigan will bring warmer temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday. Some showers will move through Northeast Michigan Wednesday. The cold front with the second low pressure system will result in colder temperatures for the end of the week.

High temperatures Tuesday got up to 50 degrees in Alpena, 58 degrees in Saginaw, Michigan and 68 degrees in Chicago. Some of that warmth over northern Illinois and southwestern Michigan will be heading in our direction.

Rain showers will begin around midday Wednesday and continue into Wednesday night. There may be some gaps in between rounds of showers. Rainfall amounts will be lowest by the shoreline in Iosco County. It’s possible that some of the future rainfall amounts shown below could be a little too high. Rainfall amounts in Alpena will likely be close to a quarter inch. Amounts will be greater farther north, Rogers City could get up to a half-inch of rainfall.

Wednesday: Cloudy and dry early, then showers begin around midday and last into the nighttime. Early-morning temperatures will climb into the 40s. Afternoon highs will get up to about 56 degrees. Evening temperatures will remain warm, in the lower 50s.

Thursday: Strong winds morning-midday. Clearing skies in the afternoon and evening. Predawn temperatures will be near 50 degrees. Afternoon temperatures will warm to highs near 60 degrees. By suppertime, temperatures will cool to the upper/middle 40s. During the late-evening, temperatures will drop to the upper/middle 30s.

Friday: Bright and cooler. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will be close to 43 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the 20s.

In addition, winds will be strong at times over the next few days.

  • Thursday: Windy morning and midday. Winds from the SW close to 20 mph, then shifting out of west and decreasing to about 10 mph in the evening.
