Wet Thursday; Warmer Friday

Today’s high temperatures were cool at the shoreline because of winds out of the southeast, coming off of Lake Huron. Highs reached 51 degrees in Alpena and 50 degrees in Oscoda. Away from the shoreline, temperatures were several degrees warmer. Highs reached 61 degrees in Atlanta and 59 degrees in West Branch. While still a few degrees below normal for the middle of May, these temperatures are beginning to get closer to normal compared to highs in the 40s that happened earlier this week.

A few rounds of showers moving across the Upper Plains and into the Upper Great Lakes will move into our area starting before daybreak Thursday. Showers are very likely in the morning and afternoon, then the chance of showers will be much lower in the evening. A small disturbance currently affecting Montana will move east, and that could possibly bring another brief round of showers Friday midday-afternoon. However, Friday is looking brighter than Thursday.

Low temperatures overnight will be near 38 degrees. Thursday will be damp nearly all day. High temperatures will reach 54 degrees late-day and remain in the lower/middle 50s during the evening. Winds will come out of the southeast, about 10 mph.

Looking at the rainfall forecast for Thursday, most places in Northeast Michigan will get close to 0.25 inches of rain. South of M-72, some localized higher amounts will be possible. Areas around Tawas and West Branch could end up with about 0.5 inches of rain.

Thursday, you’ll want to plan indoor activities because showers are likely most of the day. Friday will be warmer and mostly dry, although there’s a small chance of a shower midday or in the afternoon. The weekend will start with dry conditions Saturday. Plan any outdoor plans this weekend for Saturday, rain is expected Sunday.

Thursday will be damp with highs near 54 degrees. Some sunshine should break out on Friday, and highs will reach the middle 60s. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s.
