Wet start to the weekend; Drier Sunday; Messy Monday morning

Some sunshine brightened the weather on Black Friday and high temperatures reached the lower 40s. High pressure just off the shore of New Jersey was the dominant weather system today, providing mostly clear skies and a breeze out of the south into our area.

Rainy conditions will move in early tomorrow, as a low pressure system near the Minnesota-Iowa border approaches our area. Following tomorrow’s rain showers, Sunday morning and afternoon should be mainly dry. A storm system currently in Idaho will dive to the middle of the country over the weekend, traveling through Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. From that point, it will turn north toward lower Michigan. The most likely scenario is for this storm system to spread a wintry mix of rain/sleet/snow Sunday evening, then changing to snow, creating messy travel conditions Monday morning.

For Saturday, morning temperatures will start in the upper 30s with periods of rain showers. Afternoon highs will reach the lower 40s with a breeze out of the south. The chance of showers will begin to decrease tomorrow evening, as drier air arrives late Saturday night.

Sunday will likely be the drier day this weekend. Mostly cloudy skies are expected, then during the evening a wintry mix of precipitation is forecast to enter Northeast Michigan. After that, colder temperatures will arrive on Monday with snow likely in the morning, later weakening to light flurries. The colder temperatures will continue throughout the first couple days of the upcoming work week, and a chance of snow showers will last into Tuesday.
