WBKB 11 News Reporter Star Connor, Along With Alcona High School Students Learn Self Defense

With prom season in full effect, many life changes including college and dating, Alcona high school along with the Alcona Sheriff’s Department are teaching young women how to protect themselves with self defense.

Prior to this class many young ladies have never learned self-defense, including myself. But with recent increases of sexual assaults and domestic violence I decided to tag along with the young ladies of Alcona High School to join their class.

One important tip is to use your daily movements as a way to remember the training, another tip is to be aware of your surroundings and display confidence while trusting your instincts; and with that said, I put my own training into action.

Junior, Brianna Fogle said her favorite move is the ‘tuck and roll.’

“A lot of guys look at girls and think they aren’t as strong and they can’t do anything to defend themselves but with that technique you can take charge and get them down,” Fogle explained.

Thanks to Master Munyon, these young ladies and I will be fully trained if an unexpected situation occurs.
