Warmer temperatures move in; Chance of snow showers Saturday

Flurries have been falling throughout Northeast Michigan, south of M-32. The chance of flurries will dissipate early Friday, most of the day is looking dry. Attention then turns to a developing cold front in western Canada, that’s going to bring a chance of snow showers to our area Saturday.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. Early-morning lows will be in the lower 20s. Temperatures will rise to the upper 20s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach about 34 degrees. Evening temperatures will be near 30 degrees.

Saturday: Snow showers with a chance of rain/snow mix in the afternoon. Rain and snow amounts look very light. Early-morning temperatures will be near 30 degrees. Afternoon highs become a little warmer, around 38 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle/lower 30s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, drier. Early-morning temperatures will be near 30 degrees. Afternoon highs will head up to 38 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 30s.

Some astronomy news happening Monday, Jupiter and Saturn will meet very close together. This is called a “Great Conjunction” and happens roughly every 20 years. What’s special about 2020 is just how close Jupiter and Saturn will appear — the closest as can be seen from earth in about 794 years. (Technically this happened 397 years ago too, but it was unobservable.) The conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will appear like a bright star in the southwestern sky, just after sunset December 21. However, the forecast for local viewing conditions is looking dicey with a chance of light rain showers or flurries.
