Warm Weekend; Rainy Monday Followed by a Cool-down

Rain and thunderstorms rumbled earlier this morning with a cold front that isn’t living up to its name, and a few spotty showers have popped up this afternoon, mainly south of Alpena. Despite the recent “cold front,” warm afternoon temperatures will continue through Monday.

Temperatures briefly warmed up to 89 degrees in Alpena earlier this afternoon, with ample sunshine for a couple of hours combined with a light breeze out of the southwest. Most other locales in Northeast Michigan reached the mid-80s earlier today.

For Saturday, a low chance of showers will last through the morning, and spotty showers are possible in the afternoon mainly south of Alpena. High temperatures will warm up to the mid-80s with partly cloudy skies for most areas.

It will continue to feel very muggy on Saturday, with afternoon dew points near 70. Humidity levels will drop slightly on Sunday as drier conditions move into the region. The next weather system moving in from the Upper Plains will bring higher humidity Monday, helping to fuel showers and thunderstorms. After that, more comfortable days are ahead as humidity levels nosedive Tuesday and Wednesday.

Most areas should remain rain-free tomorrow, although south of Alpena there is a low chance for a few spotty showers. Temperatures will climb warmest Sunday afternoon under mostly sunny skies, and humidity levels will be a little lower. Showers and thunderstorms will dominate the forecast on Monday. Temperatures will cool off Tuesday and Wednesday with morning temperatures starting in the 50s and afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s.
