Warm start to fall Tuesday

High temperatures today reached 70 degrees in Alpena and Detroit. Areas west of Michigan had warmer temperatures, highs reached 75 degrees in Minneapolis and 79 degrees in St. Louis. Warmer temperatures will be heading into our area Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Beta continues to move slowly near the Texas coast. Heavy rain is being a problem between Houston and Corpus Christi. Tropical Storm Beta will make landfall late tonight or very early Tuesday — then hook a sharp turn to the northeast. The winds associated with this tropical storm will likely decrease, and it will become a tropical depression while approaching the Louisiana border.

*Now that the list of Atlantic tropical storm names has been exhausted, tropical storm names are now using the Greek alphabet.

In the Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Teddy is currently east of Bermuda and heading northbound. It is forecast to make landfall somewhere in Nova Scotia (Canada) on Wednesday.

Around Northeast Michigan — Tuesday: Possibly a spotty shower in the morning, then mostly sunny. Temperatures will start near 49 degrees predawn. Late-morning temperatures will be in the lower 60s. Afternoon highs will reach about 76 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be close to 70 degrees.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Early-morning lows will be near 50 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 60s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will be around 76 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the upper 60s.

Thursday: A chance of spotty showers during the morning and afternoon, then late-day clearing. Early-morning temperatures will be in the lower/middle 50s. Afternoon highs will be near 71 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 60s.
