Warm Friday afternoon locally; Hurricane Delta moving toward Louisiana

High temperatures today reached 62 degrees in Alpena and 55 degrees in Houghton, Mich. The cold air will be retreating Friday. Winds will strengthen out of the south-southwest, bringing in warmer temperatures. Highs reached 67 degrees in Grand Rapids, Mich. and 70 degrees in Chicago on today. Similar temperatures will move into Northeast Michigan.

Friday: Partly cloudy, breezy. Early-morning lows will be in the upper 30s. Temperatures will rise to the lower 50s in the late-morning. Highs will warm to 71 degrees in the late-afternoon. Evening temperatures will remain warm, in the 60s.

Saturday: Sunny and cooler. Early-morning temperatures will be in the upper 50s. But temperatures will not climb far upwards. Highs will reach only about 63 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the middle/upper 50s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with a cool morning. Early-morning temperatures will dip to the lower 40s. Late-morning temperatures will be in the lower 50s. Afternoon highs will be around 57 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 50s.

In the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Delta continues to strengthen, having reached category 3 strength (winds close to 120 mph). The forecast for landfall is along the western or central Louisiana coastline, late Friday. Flooding rains and storm surge inundation will be very concerning. Delta is affecting the same area as Hurricane Laura this past August.
