Warm and muggy Wednesday; Next risk of storms arrives Thursday

High temperatures today got up to 93 degrees in Alpena, 94 degrees in Saginaw and 91 degrees in Traverse City. Very warm and muggy conditions will continue over the next couple days. A breeze from the south will bring hotter temperatures on Thursday.

Along with high humidity, there was just enough instability to spark a few thunderstorms between M-72 and M-55 (south of Harrisville and Mio, north of West Branch and Tawas City). A high pressure system currently over northern Minnesota will bring quiet weather to Northern Michigan tonight through Thursday morning.

Wednesday, highs will reach the upper 80s or close to 90 degrees. Temperatures will soar to the middle 90s Thursday afternoon. Friday will be another warm one with highs in the upper 80s, then a cold front will move through Northern Michigan. After that, temperatures will gradually become cooler heading into the weekend. Highs will be in the middle 80s Saturday afternoon and near 80 degrees Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy and warm. Predawn lows will be around 62 degrees. By 10 a.m., temperatures will rise to the upper 70s. Afternoon highs will reach about 89 degrees. Temperatures will remain warm in the early-evening, in the lower 80s.

Thursday: Very hot and humid and a risk of late-day thunderstorms. Early-morning temperatures will start in the middle/upper 60s. Late-morning temperatures will warm to the lower 80s. Afternoon highs will heat up to around 94 degrees! Early-evening temperatures will remain quite sticky, in the upper 80s.

Friday: Showers and a risk of thunderstorms from midday until the evening. Predawn lows will be in the upper 60s. Temperatures will rise to about 80 degrees in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will be around 86 degrees. Temperatures will still be in the lower 80s heading into the early-evening.
