Warm and muggy until the end of the week

High temperatures today reached the middle to upper 70s across Northeast Michigan. A few showers moved in from the west, which affected areas mainly south of Alpena in the morning and early afternoon. Cloud cover has begun to decrease late in the day, and skies will continue to clear overnight.

Drier air and clearer skies over northern Wisconsin and Minnesota will move into our area, providing mostly sunny skies. The next disturbance currently over Montana will travel eastward, and increase our chance of showers late Thursday.

Low temperatures tonight will drop to 60 degrees, partly cloudy skies are expected although patchy fog is possible. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny and warm with high temperatures reaching the middle and upper 80s away from the shoreline. Light winds out of the east will keep high temperatures limited to the upper 70s at the shoreline.

High temperatures in the middle 80s are forecast for the Fourth of July and Friday. On Saturday, winds out of the north will introduce cooler temperatures to our area, and high temperatures will get even cooler on Sunday.

Given the heat and humidity expected on Thursday, here are some tips to keep in mind if you have outdoor plans during the holiday:
• Try to spend as much time as possible inside with air conditioning
• When outside, seek shade
• Drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol
• Apply sunscreen every 2 hours when outside

A bright day is in store tomorrow with afternoon highs in the 80s. Most of Thursday is looking rain-free, then a few showers or thunderstorms are possible in the late-afternoon and evening. A few showers are possible again on Friday with high temperatures reaching the middle 80s. The weekend should end up completely dry with highs in the upper 70s on Saturday and middle 70s on Sunday.
