ALPENA, Mich.,—Vietnam veterans chapter 583 is ringing in the holidays by hosting their annual toys for kids drive. But this year the organization teamed up with a local coffee shop to add an extra incentive.
For the last 28 years, Vietnam veterans chapter 583 in Alpena have been making it their mission that every child in the community doesn’t go without a gift during Christmas.
Toys for kids is a part of the Vietnam veteran’s Operation Holidays program which strives to bring gifts for families in need in Northeast Michigan.
The organization has also partnered with Alpena’s local coffee shop, Biggby Coffee in which people can drop off unwrapped gifts in exchange for a free 16 ounce drink of their choice.
Coordinator for the toys for kids drive, Tammy Kish says their operation reached over 900 families last year and hope volunteers will take part in this huge operation.
