Veterans Memorial Park receives new columbarium

OSCODA, Mich.–

The Oscoda Veterans Memorial Park recently received a columbarium, which will hold the cremains of local veterans and their spouses. The columbarium is carved from black and gray granite and weighs over 9500 tons.

Each of the 48 niches has room for up to two urns. Several niches have already been reserved by veterans in northeast Michigan.

The park’s chairwoman, Rose Mary Nentwig, says she believes the monument is suited to its location.

“We thought, what a great place to put it at the Veterans Memorial Park, which, again, is situated on a former military base. We just thought it was really appropriate to do something like that for our veterans.”

Workers at Kalitta Air volunteered their crane to assist with installation.
