VETERAN WALKS FOR CHARITY

ALPENA, Mich.– A Detroit football icon passed through Alpena today. He’s walking across the state to raise money for several Michigan charities.

If you’re a Detroit Lions fan, you’ve likely seen Michael Rollins in the bleachers. You might know him by his alter ego: the Reverend of Roar.

This musician, sound engineer, and former marine uses his theatre skills pump up crowds on game day. This week, Michael has taken those skills on the road, walking down U.S. 23 on a journey to ford field.

While at a benefit event in de tour, he learned that his car had broken down and would take three weeks to repair. That’s when an idea started to form in his head.

“The theatre brought me in, the marine core made me a man, and we were putting [the earlier charity event] together for the [Eastern Upper Peninsula Hospice]. So I want to pull the E.U.P. Hospital {sic}, the Planet Ant Theatre down in Tramhamck, and the NFL Wounded Warrior project. And we’ve got three great charities and one great walk.”

You can find him streaming his journey on Facebook and Instagram, both of which have links to his GoFundMe me for the walk. Even though it’s an arduous journey, Michael says he’s reinvigorated when he sees people donating and cheering him on. He has currently raised over $5,000.00.
