Very cold early Tuesday; Snow or rain/snow mix Wednesday

High temperatures today reached the lower 30s across Northeast Michigan, ranging from 31 to 33 degrees. High temperatures will be in the middle 30s over the next couple of days, so not much variation is expected with high temperatures for most of the week. However, early-morning low temperatures will vary more widely.

Mostly clear skies and light winds are a perfect recipe for temperatures to drop rapidly overnight, dropping to the lower teens by early Tuesday. It will be a chilly start to the day. Mostly cloudy skies are expected in the afternoon, then a few flurries will be possible in the late-evening.

The jet stream acts like a path for storm systems to follow. On Wednesday, the jet stream will send a disturbance from western Canada into our area. Scattered snow showers are expected although a rain/snow mix is possible in the afternoon when temperatures climb a few degrees above the freezing mark.

The chance of flurries will begin to increase Tuesday evening-overnight. The chance of snow or a rain/snow mix will be higher on Wednesday. A dry gap will likely be situated over our area Thursday.

Taking a look back at November 2019: The average of all the daily high temperatures was 38 degrees, noticeably cooler than ‘normal.’ Low temperatures throughout the month averaged to 25 degrees, also below normal . A record daily low of 6 degrees was set in November 12. Snowfall for the month was close to 2 inches less than normal.

Most of the day tomorrow will be dry, then the chance of flurries will begin to increase in the late-evening. Scattered snow showers or a rain/snow mix will likely move through our area Wednesday. Thursday is looking dry, then a few flurries will be possible on Friday. Snowfall and rainfall amounts are looking minimal for both Wednesday and Friday.
