United Way Aims to Help Homeless for the Holidays With “Sock it to Poverty” Fundraiser

Alpena, Mich.- The United Way is aiming to help the homeless in Alcona, Alpena and Montmorency County. The organization has created an event called ‘Sock it to Poverty.’

The United Way is encouraging all local businesses and organizations to set up a donation site to drop off warm items until December 12th. New socks, mittens, hats and cash will be accepted but warm socks are the most requested item.

Donations can simply be dropped off at any participating business or organization including Thrivent Financial. Socks can be purchased for all ages and genders from infant through adult.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make checks payable to the United Way (with Sock it to Poverty on the memo line) to United Way of Northeast Michigan, 701 Woodward Ave., Alpena, MI. 49707, and socks will be purchased on your behalf.
