United Way Accepting School Supplies Donations at Walgreens

ALPENA, Mich. — United Way will be accepting school supply donations outside of Walgreens at the intersection of M32 and Bagley St.

Instead of just hoping to fill a few boxes, the organization’s goal is to pack a whole school bus with supplies. Volunteers and board members will be posted outside the bus to accept donations.

While any school supplies would be welcomed, board member and Alcona Schools Superintendent, Dan O’Connor, says hygienic items like toothpaste, shampoo and soap would also be greatly appreciated. “You know just help students with some basic hygiene needs and necessities, so obviously if folks have some of those supplies as well, we’d be glad to accept those,” he said.

United Way volunteer, Ed Czarnecki, said that it is important for students to prepared when starting a new school year. “So many students in our community look forward to the start of school, others look forward to the start of school but they don’t have the supplies and they’re struggling.”

All donations will be split among Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona counties. United Way will accept supplies July 26 to July 29, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
