UBUNTU Alpena: Community project emphasizes spirit of togetherness

ALPENA, Mich. — At a time when the nation remains divided by politics and a pandemic, two Alpena women have launched an initiative to bring people together.  UBUNTU Alpena is the brainchild of Rose Nowak and Traci Boyle.  UBUNTU is a philosophy that emphasizes the spirit of togetherness.  It tells us that we are only who we are, thanks to other people.  Nowak and Boyle explained that UBUNTU is about community coming together to help one another.  In short, it means, “I am, because we are.”

The women have created an UBUNTU Alpena apparel line to launch the ongoing project and help spread a positive message of a community that cares, shares and respects one another.

How it works:

When your employees or organization members purchase shirts for your company or organization, 100% of the proceeds will go back into the the Alpena community. You, as a business or organization, simply choose which local non-profit or youth organization you would like to donate to, write it on your order form, and the proceeds from your company/organization’s order, will go directly to them after all shirt orders have been processed and delivered.

In addition, your business/organization name (text only) will be included on a list of local business/organizations that chose to be part of the UBUNTU Alpena community, that will be printed on the back of the shirts. Not only will you be helping to spread the message of UBUNTU, but also your purchase will benefit the community and you will receive advertising on the shirts, and also through a public Facebook post listing all participants in this project.

Shirt orders must be submitted by May 1.   All shirts will be delivered to your place of business by no later than Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
