Thursday town hall meeting to go over water well testing results

Alpena- The Alpena Combat Readiness and Training Center will host a town hall meeting this Thursday to go over results from local water well testing.

80 wells around the base were tested for contaminated water. So far, results from 62 wells have already come back, showing levels well the EPA standards (70 parts per trillion). The highest level found in the wells was 29.7 PPT. The problem chemicals in the water were perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). These chemicals are used in firefighting foams. Professionals will be on hand to answer questions and go through the results.

The doors will open at 4:30pm at the Collins Center on base. An open house will lead up to the formal town hall that is schedule to start at 6:00pm.
