Three car accident on Genschaw leaves three injured

ALPENA, Mich. — An accident backed up traffic on Genschaw Rd. after a vehicle crossed the center line and hit two other cars. Police and fire responded to the accident around 1 p.m. this afternoon.

A Chevy Trailblazer heading northbound on Genschaw crashed into a Ford pickup stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left onto Princeton. After striking the pickup, the Trailblazer then veered into the southbound lane, crashing head on into a Toyota Prius, leaving occupants of that vehicle with severe injuries.

Michigan State Police Trooper Robert Mitchell says, “The one that I observed was a compound fracture of the leg. Two passengers were taken to the ER along with the driver of the first vehicle.”

Airbags deployed in the Prius and the Trailblazer. Alpena County Sheriff’s were on scene to conduct an accident reconstruction for more information.

It’s unknown if texting played a factor in the crash.
