ALPENA, Mich. — Every year, the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame committee holds a banquet in the month of May. Not only that, but that’s also where they would induct its newest members. However, that wasn’t the case this year. For the first time ever, the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame banquet is canceled.
Normally, the event is held on the first Saturday in May, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the board in early March made plans to hold the event on Aug. 8. However, with the frequent changes, the board just thought it was best to hold the event next year. The board hopes to hold the 2021 banquet in May with the 2019 and 2020 class together.
The class of 2019 includes:
Tom Lavoie and Terry Thomas
Shannon Domrase Woloczyk
In addition, Alpena’s 2010 baseball team will be honored as Team of the Year, while Joyce Gohlke and Jim Townsend will be honored as Boosters of the Year.
