Theatre Introduces New Education Initiative

Last Saturday, Thunder Bay Theatre unveiled their new education initiative, benefiting both the community and its aspiring actors and actresses.

The new initiative is referred to as TBT^2, standing for Thunder Bay Theatre Theatrical Based Training.

“Over the past three years of really getting involved with the kids and realizing that there are some deficiencies in the school district- you know just in regards to the arts- and that’s nobodies fault, it’s just the reality of the situation,” said Jeffrey Mindock, Thunder Bay Theatre Artistic Director. “We decided that it was really time to create a program, and this initiative to ensure that no student was going to be left behind in terms of the arts.”

To ensure that no student is left behind, the initiative has a four point plan, consisting of an introduction to theatre, preparation for the pursuit of a degree in theatre, training at a four year university, and retention as a paid employee.

Not only does the initiative assist aspiring actors and actresses, it also builds confidence and valuable skills, and provides quality entertainment to the community.

“I think that’s really what’s become one of the strongest points of our mission as an organization, is to really create theatre that is for our community and supported by our community and is appreciated by our community,” said Mindock.
