The tradition just keeps on going

POSEN, Mich. — Once the clock struck midnight, the Posen Vikings football team took the field as they began preparations for the upcoming season. For the 13th straight year, the red and white turned the lights on to get an early start to the season.

“It’s a great way to start the season off,” said Posen head coach Greg Pietsch. “The games are played under the lights and it fires the kids up.”

Last season, the Vikings finished with a 6-4 record, including a 46-26 loss to Cedarville in the Regional Semifinals. Posen lost ten players in 2019, including running back Tyler Hincka who rushed for 2,009 yards with 25 touchdowns.

“We have some big shoes to fill,” said Pietsch. “That senior class was a great group of kids. However, it’s now time to turn the page and that’s what we intend to do. We’re going to get out there and compete.”

Pietsch is looking for his senior players to help lead the charge for this young team. “Personally, I’m going to have to step up and be the big guy,” said senior Chase Dubie. “Other then that, its a team game.”

If the schedule remains the same, the Posen Vikings will kickoff their season on Aug. 28, against the Pellston Hornets.
