September is childhood cancer awareness month. Every day, forty-three children are diagnosed with cancer and twelve percent of those diagnosed do not survive. One Alpena family knows the struggle of childhood cancer all too well. At 15 months old Jenna Marsico was diagnosed with cancer in Alpena. Since Alpena did not have the resources to accommodate children with cancer, Jenna had to take a four hour ambulance ride to Ann Arbor. The long road trips didn’t stop anytime soon, once a week, for four years, the Marsico family had to pack up everything and go to Ann Arbor for treatments.
