The Salvation Army of Alpena is helping kids this winter

ALPENA, Mich. -The Salvation Army of Alpena County is preparing to help kids stay warm this winter.

Starting this week, the organization is collecting new or gently used winter items like coats, hats and gloves.

The Salvation Army said the donations are greatly needed.

Major Prezza Morrison said she is expecting more people looking for winter wear soon.

“So this year it’s even more critical, said Morrison. “We’ve already seen an increase of request coming to us; we’ve seen an increase of first timers, people we’ve never seen come. The thing is, not only are they coming for the hats, coats, scarf’s and gloves, but we can also provide them with other services.”

Morrison said they will also accept monetary donations.

You can drop off your items at the Salvation Army’s Second Avenue location Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Please call the Salvation Army if you need to set up an after-hour drop off.  They are collecting until Friday, October 16  for use on distribution days.

Distribution of items is Thursday, October 21 at the Second Avenue church next to their office. No ID or proof of income is required to receive items.
