The Lady Wildcats fall to a late comeback from Petoskey 38-43

ALPENA, MI – The Lady Wildcats currently hold the top spot in the Big North Conference with a 10–6 overall record and only two losses in conference matches. However, tonight’s game would be important for them staying up top and not falling down the rankings. The Petoskey Northmen are just one game behind both Alpena and Gaylord, and a win tonight would push them up towards the top spot.

Alpena came out and ran through the Northmen to start off the game. First up Alpena inbounds the ball to Reese Wisniewski. The Sophomore tries from long range and sinks the three-pointer for Alpena.

Reese now on a fast break for the Wildcats. She makes the pass to Franciska Treiliha who chucks it back out to Allison Urlaub. She puts it up from mid-range and hits the jumper.

Another fast break for Alpena. This time, Franciska takes it herself straight to the rack and goes for a finger roll layup. It’s up and through for two.

Alpena would hold a lead throughout the entire first half, looking dominant while doing so. Now the Wildcats moving the ball around until they find Franciska on the wing. There’s another three-point attempt from the Wildcats and it falls for her.

However, despite the strong first half, the second half was a totally different story. Kenzie Bromley gets the ball down low for Petoskey. She rises up for a layup and sinks it while picking up the foul for an and–one.

Bromley was the key in bringing the Northmen back into this game. Kenzie makes the move at the wing, gets a wide open lane to try a driving layup, and it falls.

Petoskey outscored the wildcats 29 to 13 in the second half as Alpena’s shots just weren’t falling like they were earlier. Bromley this time goes up and under from the side and makes another layup for Petoskey.

Finally, Bromley once again with the ball. she made the play on defense to go on the fast break. She’s got one girl to beat towards the cup and tries another layup and hits it again.

Petoskey outplayed Alpena throughout the whole second half to pull off a great comeback on the road to get the win. Final score is 38–43. Alpena now has their final road game of the season next Friday when they travel to face Traverse City West.

The Alpena guys basketball team also came up short against Petoskey, losing 54-70.
