Tawas City Man Shoots Two Home Invaders , One Fatally

We have new information regarding the home invasion and shooting that occurred in Tawas City over the weekend. Investigators say a 66-year-old Tawas City man shot two home invaders with a rifle, fatally striking one of them.

Investigation is still underway on the incident that occurred Sunday night on the 800 Block of Fir Street in Tawas City.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police West Branch post responded to a call of rifle shots being fired and a man going door to door with a gun. Initial investigation revealed the subject was going door-to-door seeking help regarding a home invasion.

According to police, while in his residence, the 66-year-old male was confronted by two suspects both armed with hunting knives and wearing masks, attempting to rob him. The resident shot both men in his home with a rifle.

The first suspect, a 21 year old man from Oscoda was found dead on scene, the second suspect a 29 year old male also from Oscoda, was given first aid and flown to a Saginaw hospital; he is expected to survive.

The homeowner was uninjured and police say he is cooperating with investigators and more evidence is gathered.

The investigation will be submitted to the Iosco County Prosecutor for review.
