Sunday Soaker; Warming trend next week

High temperatures today warmed up to 68 degrees in Alpena and 74 in West Branch. Temperatures were cooler at the shorelines where light breezes were coming off of Lake Huron, Oscoda had a high of 62 degrees. Temperatures Saturday afternoon will be in the 50s at the shoreline, and 60s inland.

Overnight lows will cool to about 42 degrees. Saturday, we will see a mix of sun and clouds. Morning temperatures will be in the middle 40s. Afternoon highs will reach about 59 degrees in Alpena. Lights winds will be coming from the east, about 5-10 mph.

A storm system still gathering over the Plains will move into our area Sunday. This will give northern Michigan soaking rainfall Sunday & through Sunday night. Near M-32, rainfall amounts of 0.75-1 inch are expected in Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties. Close to M-72, greater rainfall amounts of 1-1.5 inches are expected in Alcona, Oscoda, Iosco and Ogemaw counties.

For any outdoor plans this weekend, do them on Saturday. Saturday will be dry all day. Sunday will be soaking wet with widespread rainfall. There could be a shower or two leftover early Monday, but most of the day is looking dry. Tuesday will be brighter and warmer, a great day to spend some time outdoors. Also, we are now in the time of year where the sun’s angle causes stronger UV rays, so make sure to apply sunscreen when going outside!

For Saturday, we will see a mix of sun and clouds and high temperatures will reach the upper 50s. Highs on Sunday will be only in the lower to middle 50s with widespread soaking rain. Monday will be brighter by the afternoon and highs will reach the lower 60s. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with temperatures climbing to the middle 60s.
