Students Show Appreciation for Officer Marquardt at Alpena High School

In the midst of all of the recent school threat incidents, including the one that occurred today, local students are feeling a bit grateful to have officers, like D.A.R.E. Officer, Tim Marquardt on standby.

“With all of the stuff that he deals with we just wanted to tell him how much we actually appreciate him. He does go through a lot and I think he’s given a bad rep for that, but he does deserve a lot of respect because without him things would be tough around here, so it’s just nice knowing he’s here,” 12th grader, Ben Dault said.

Showing just how much they appreciate Officer Marquardt, students wrote thank you cards.

“I know he has a lot of stress, and a lot of responsibility, and we just wanted to shed light on that,” Lars MacArthur said.

Surprised by his gifts, the cards moved Officer Marquardt.

“That made my day. Sometimes it just takes a thank you like that and these guys went above and beyond what would normally be a thank you,” Marquardt said.

And although he doesn’t plan on wearing the blue uniform, Officer Marquart has inspired one student to go into another unique officer role.

“I actually plan on going into the DNR,” Nate Cosbitt revealed.
