Tawas City, Mich. — The playground at Clara Bolen Elementary is 28 years old and slowly falling apart, so one mother put together a very unique way to help raise funds for a new playground.

The fundraiser is called “Laps for Learning!” Children run laps and donors pledge a certain amount of money for each lap. On Thursday, hundreds of students put their best foot forward and helped raise funds and awareness for a new playground. Brittany Harrison introduced the idea, and the school ran with it.

“The second, third, and fourth graders run 30 minutes, and the kindergartners and the first graders run fifteen minutes, and they looked for donations to sponsor them per lap or just a one-time donation,” said Harrison.

the school hopes to raise over $8,000 from Thursday’s laps, a major step towards their goal of $50,000. Administration hopes to break ground for a new playground on June 15th.

“I’ll quote a student when I went, and I said, “Let’s do our best!” and he goes, “Yeah, but it’s not about who wins, it’s about just having fun,” and I said “Yeah, you nailed it!” said Principal Sarah Danek.

If you’d like to donate, you can contact Clara Bolen Elementary by giving them a call or sending an email.
