Stretching your gas budget
ALPENA, Mich. — Prices for gas are rising across the country, with many people seeing hikes of ten cents or more overnight. With this in mind, what can you do to keep that expense low and save on fuel?
Adrienne Woodland of AAA said consumers have a few options for dealing with gas hikes. She said drivers can try joining customer reward programs at gas stations to save a few cents per gallon.She also recommended using sites like GasBuddy and AAA to shop around for the lowest prices in your area.
When it comes to your vehicle’s fuel economy, woodland says you can conserve gas by easing off the accelerator.
“Slow down. Fuel economy diminishes significantly at highway speeds above 50 miles per hour. And you also want to consider driving conservatively and avoiding aggressive driving. Aggressive acceleration and speed reduces your fuel economy.”
Woodland also suggested mapping your errands strategically by selecting stores that are close to each other. That way, you can get everything you need in one trip.
