State GOP Senator Reacts to Governor’s Address

LANSING, Mich. — State Senator Jim Stamas, who represents Alpena and Michigan’s 37th District, gave his reaction to Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State Address.

“I liked what she said,” Stamas said to WBKB. “But her actions are completely different than what she’s said.”

Stamas also said he hopes the governor’s rhetoric leads to action in regards to working with the legislature. He noted the state lawmakers willingness to pass bipartisan bills to Whitmer, and her tendency to veto the bills regardless of the party sponsoring.

“She continues to find ways not to work with the legislature instead of working with us,” Senator Stamas said. “If all of that comes to fruition, that would be great.”

Overall, Stamas agreed with Governor Whitmer’s goals for the state in 2021, although the two may not see eye to eye on how to attain these goals.

“I think all of the items that she spoke about, those are all things we agree on,” Stamas said. “We just don’t necessarily agree on how to do them.”
