ALPENA, Mich. — State Farm is giving out more than insurance these days and on the receiving end of the benefit is one local teacher.
Michigan teachers were asked to submit innovative teaching ideas for an opportunity to win State Farm teacher assist grants. According to State Farm agent Samuel Rumbles 200 submissions were accepted and reviewed and 40 teachers were awarded 2,500 dollar grants. One local Alpena teacher was on the receiving end of the win.
Rumbles said some of his friends who are teachers said one current struggle they are facing with students is developing that relationship with students from home.
Another local agent T.J. Hoes said giving back locally means so much to him because he and Rumbles are Alpena natives.
Rumbles spoke with Alpena’s winner, who is a local teacher at Pied Piper Elementary School, and said she was ecstatic to hear the news. He added that it is awesome to see businesses and corporations looking out for the little guy in this point and time.
