Spenser Fisher wins 2021 Alpena City Open

ALPENA, Mich. — It was the opposite of a beautiful day for golf at the River’s Edge Golf Course on Sunday.

Despite the wet grass, windy conditions, and downpouring rain- Spenser Fisher shot a 2 over, 74, to edge out Nathan Winson and take home the title of Alpena City Open Champion.

Fisher, Winson, and Todd Skiba were the three leaders heading into the final day of the competition, with Winson and Fisher both tied. Each of them shot a 2-under, 70, at Alpena Golf Course on Saturday.

Fisher, who sunk a birdie-chip on the 12th hole, says that shot was what got him going.

“That was probably the key momentum changer to get the round going,” Fisher said. “[It feels] great. I wish Winson didn’t make a number on 17, but I’m proud of it.”

Winson was in control, riding off of back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14, before he triple-bogeyed the 17th hole. Even after shooting birdie on 18, he still lost to Fisher by two strokes.
