Song of the Lakes Gives Free Concert Inspired by the Book, ‘Paddle to the Sea’

Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary hosted a free concert Friday night for families to enjoy music through storytelling.

Inspired by the book, “Paddle to the Sea,” and The Great Lakes, Song of the Lakes wrote and composed and recorded 13 songs taking sections from the book and it’s adventures.

Band member, Mike Sullivan said the band has been working on this project for over 8 years in order to celebrate the books 75th anniversary.

“We’ve traveled around the great lakes. Our mission is to really celebrate the culture of the great lakes. This project has been in the works for 8 years. So we’ve been working on writing music for this book, which paddle to the sea is actually celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. We’re really delighted to have this show together,” Sullivan said.

If you missed out in yesterday’s concert, Song of the Lakes CD and “Paddle to the Sea’s” book can be purchased at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
