Some sun Wednesday; Chance of flurries develops Thursday

High temperatures today reached 17 degrees in Alpena, 13 degrees in Traverse City, Michigan and 5 degrees in Ironwood, Michigan. This arctic air mass will not be changing anytime soon. Highs Wednesday will also get into the upper teens across Northeast Michigan.

Wind chills early Wednesday will end up around minus 5. The wind chill describes how cold temperatures combined with wind feels onto exposed skin. We have some more days this week that you’ll need a few layers to bundle up with nighttime and morning wind chills going below zero. Wind chills early Thursday will drop to between minus 5 and minus 10, another morning that’s going to feel very cold.

Wednesday is looking completely dry with a mix of sun and clouds. During the afternoon and evening on Thursday, winds will shift out of the northeast, and that wind direction could generate some flurries coming off of Lake Huron into Northeast Michigan. Friday, moisture from the west will move into Northern Michigan, bringing a higher chance of scattered snow showers.


Wednesday: Mix of sun and clouds, cold early. Predawn temperatures will drop to around 0 degrees (wind chills will be a few degrees below zero). Temperatures will rise to the lower teens in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach near 18 degrees. Evening temperatures will get close to 10 degrees.

Thursday: Starts dry and cold, then a chance of flurries develops late-day. Predawn temperatures will begin close to 1 degree (wind chills will be several degrees below zero). Afternoon highs will be near 18 degrees. Evening temperatures will dip to the middle/lower teens.

Friday: Snow showers during the morning and afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will cool to around 9 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to about 19 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the lower teens.
