Snow tonight-Friday morning; Warming up this weekend

An area of low pressure over Wisconsin is bringing a rain/snow mix to Northern Lower Michigan. Precipitation will change completely to snow this evening as temperatures cool. Periods of snow will continue until tomorrow morning. After that, high pressure currently over South Dakota will bring clearing skies late-day.

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for areas close to and north of M-32. The advisory lasts until noon Friday, and includes: Alpena, Montmorency, Presque Isle, Otsego, Cheboygan and Emmet counties. For the areas under the advisory, 2-4 inches of snow will be possible tonight and early Friday.

Low temperatures overnight will cool to about 26 degrees. Periods of snow are likely tomorrow morning with temperatures in the upper 20s. High temperatures tomorrow will reach only 32 degrees and less cloud cover is expected late-day. Winds out of the north will be brisk, about 15 mph, and give our area cooler temperatures.

The cooler air on Friday will move to the Northeastern states on Saturday. The jet stream will go north into central Canada — that will allow warm air from the southern Plains to move into the Great Lakes region. Much warmer temperatures will move into our area this weekend.

Tomorrow will start with snow and end with mostly clear skies. Highs temperatures will get into the lower 30s. Low temperatures early Saturday will be cold, around 10 degrees. Saturday is looking partly cloudy with highs in the lower 40s. For Sunday, a mix of sun and clouds is forecast and highs will climb to the lower 50s. Our next chance of rain will arrive Monday.
