ALPENA, Mich.— Residents can now access the upgraded version of the smart 911 service through the app, computer and by land line. Smart 911 is a system providing enhanced caller information to 911 dispatch in case of an emergency.
Residents can include information such as their address and description of their home. Smart 911 helps emergency dispatch locate callers more easily and respond to a situation as soon as possible.
Risk Reduction Officer Andy Marceau said, “The new alert feature can keep residents in the know about weather and crime emergencies.” Smart 911 is available to users in most Michigan counties. So far, Alpena has almost 400 residents who use the service.
Marceau said, Smart 911 is safe and he encourages everyone to use it.
