ALPENA, Mich. – There’s another scene in town delivering the day’s hot topics in news and entertainment. They’re not professional journalists nor do they have a spot on daytime TV, but they have a studio audience that’s been attracting a lot of buzz at a local fitness center.
Most people wouldn’t think of a fitness center being the set of a talk show. “It kind of just evolved from chaos to organized chaos,” says Liz Klemens, the news gatherer for the group.
When the clock strikes 8:25 a.m. it’s showtime. Many of the seniors are getting their fill of the day’s top headlines at Bay Athletic Club. They come together right before their workouts every single day — which is where they get their name — the Daily Dose Talk Show.
“One day I jotted down a few things that I wanted to bring up when we started talking and then all of a sudden I was bringing the Daily Dose,”
Klemens got the idea for her segment using CNN’s “Top 5 Things to Know” as her inspiration.
“It’s informative,” says Nancy Garant, a member of Daily Dose. “You want to know what’s going on in the world. everyone should know what’s going on.” Promoting positivity through open discussions helps the group not only stay socially conscious, but also offers daily maintenance for their well–being.
“Being a former physical education teacher,” says Klemens, “I know that a healthy heart helps with a healthy mind.”
Growing popularity of the show has these seniors continually coming back for more.
“If the show got cancelled,” says Garant, “I would still be here everyday” talking and working-out with her friends.
