Seeking mental health assistance through texting method

ALPENA, Mich. – Michigan has partnered with the organization, Crisis Text Line to offer mental health support during the COVID–19 pandemic.

As part of the stay home, stay well initiative, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is offering mental health support through text messaging.

According to Allen Jansen, a spokesperson for the health department, with the COVID–19 pandemic and related financial hardships, Michigan residents are coping with stress and anxiety that can result in a mental health crisis.

Through confidential text messaging, trained professionals will respond with resources addressing everything from anxiety and financial issues to suicide and domestic violence.

Counselors for the crisis line are available 24 hours a day seven days a week by texting the word RESTORE to 741741.
