Second Chance Animal Shelter sees successful “Adopt-A-Thon”

ALPENA, Mich.– The Second Chance Animal Shelter held a very successful Adopt–A-Thon and bottle drive Saturday.

The open office near Kadrich Family Chiropractic received a steady flow of visitors, all looking to find a new feline friend. The cats had free roam, allowing guests to easily observe their personalities and approach them for a bit of play.

Those who felt a click with a particular cat were able to adopt and take them home the very same day. The event started at 10:00 AM with nine cats. By 1:00 PM, six of them had been adopted.

Treasurer Leanne Bloom says that Adopt–A–Thons are a great help in their mission.

“The more that we adopt out, the more that we’re able to help. We’ve got a waitlist. We only can take in so many, just because they are in foster homes. So, unfortunately, there’s always a waitlist, there’s always more cats and kittens that– that need some help. So we’re hoping to do this, um, probably every weekend that we can.”

Outdoors, the shelter was running a bottle drive to help raise funds for their building renovations. Bloom says that this year, bottle donations have helped them raise over twelve thousand dollars.
