ALPENA, Mich. — Discount grocer, Aldi, appears to be one step closer to opening a store in Alpena. A preliminary purchase agreement between the developer and Alpena Public Schools has been drafted. If the deal is approved, the district’s transportation facility located on M-32 will be relocated to an area behind Alpena High school. Aldi would then redevelop the transportation facility into retail space.
APS Interim Superintendent Susan Wooden said it would be roughly a year before the community would begin to see any visible progress on the plans being discussed, but the deal looks promising.
The Alpena Board of Education will review the preliminary agreement at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Sept. 21.
