Scattered showers Friday; Colder over the weekend

High temperatures today reached 76 degrees in Alpena. With a light breeze from the east, temperatures were cooler at the shoreline and warmer west of Alpena. Highs only got to 70 degrees in Oscoda, and temperatures warmed to 81 degrees in Atlanta.

Skies will remain dry overnight with partly cloudy skies. An incoming cold front will bring a chance of scattered showers beginning tomorrow morning and continuing in to the afternoon. There is also a low risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Then any showers will move out by the evening with clearing skies underway Friday night. Saturday will be bright and cooler, behind the cold front.

Now near the southern border of Mexico, Cristobal has weakened to a tropical depression. As it curves northward and heads back into the Gulf of Mexico, it is forecast to restrengthen to a tropical storm. It will then continue moving northward, likely arriving at the Louisiana coast late Sunday or early Monday. Moisture from this tropical system will continue progressing north, and bring a chance of rain to our area in the middle of next week.

Overnight lows will cool to the middle 50s with partly cloudy skies. The greatest chance of showers on Friday will be midday-afternoon. Morning temperatures will be in the middle 60s. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 70s, and winds will come out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.

After Friday’s cold front moves through, temperatures will become cooler over the weekend. Highs will be around 70 degrees on Saturday, then only in the middle 60s Sunday. Temperatures will trend upward early next week. Temperatures will climb to the lower/middle 70s on Monday, and soar to the middle 80s Tuesday.

Scattered showers are expected Friday with highs in the upper 70s. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs near 70 degrees. Sunday will start with early-morning lows in the middle 40s. Clouds will increase late Sunday and highs will reach only around 66 degrees. Dry weather will continue Monday.
