Samaritas establishes Afghan Refugee Network

LANSING, Mich. – One Michigan organization is helping afghan refugees resettle throughout the state.

Samaritas, is a human service organization that is dedicated to transforming communities and families.

The result of the crisis in Afghanistan prompted the non–profit to create their Afghan Refugee Network.

The Refugee Network will provide resources to help make afghan people feel welcomed.

“Samaritas had to answer the call in a significant way so we came together and said we’re committed to serving at least 350 Afghan refugees across the state,” said Samaritas Chief Advancement Officer “Kelli Dobner.

They’re looking to raise over 400 thousand dollars to help provide affordable housing to refugees in various parts of the state.

Dobner said people all across Michigan are stepping in to help.

“We’ve had people who have planned to sell their home or second home they have, like a cottage up north, who have stopped that and are instead allowing us to use their home so we can place families,” said Dobner.

Dobner said after they generate enough funding Samaritas will focus on phase two of the network, which is placing refugees into jobs.
