Salvation Army opens Community Refrigerator

ALPENA, Mich.- Do you have too much produce and don’t want it to go to waste?

Well, now there’s a place you can donate food all while helping others.

The salvation Army recently opened a Community refrigerator at it Second Avenue building.

It’s an effort to provide healthy food options for people in the community.

The organization recently received a surprise donation large enough to purchase the fridge.

Major Prezza Morrison said her own path to a healthy lifestyle inspired her.

She said healthier food choices help change lives.

“To really push the idea of giving people healthy options to the people that come to us,” said Morrison. “They can come here and they can get this as part of their pantry packet and it may make them healthier and if it makes them healthier, their self esteem , they’ll feel better about themselves.”

If you have a garden, produce or extra food to donate you can call the Salvation Army at 989-354-5147.
