Salvation Army of Alpena holding winter drive

ALPENA, Mich. – The Salvation Army of Alpena is accepting donations for gloves, hats, undergarments and socks as part of a winter campaign.

After a successful holiday season the Salvation Army is asking the community and other organizations and even businesses to lend a helping hand by making a donation of the needed items.

Major Prezza Morrison said the idea actually came about after seeing the additional need during the holiday season.

“Christmas time there was a lot of parents that was in need of underwear and socks, and we couldn’t fulfill it at that time so we thought let’s wait until February and make that asks,” said Morrison. “By now maybe those gloves are getting worn out, children grow up, and they may have grown out of some of those items.”

According to Major Morrison you can bring donations of hats, gloves, undergarments or socks to their 2nd Avenue location and even do a contact–less drop off.

The distribution of the donated items is scheduled for February 9th and 10th by appointment only.
