Safety tips for transporting your Christmas tree

BLACK RIVER, Mich.– AAA has some safety reminders for those who shop for live Christmas trees.

The organization says improperly–fastened trees can be a risk for the buyer’s vehicle and other drivers.

When you take your tree home, make sure it’s tightly netted, with loose branches closely bound.

Placing a blanket on top of your roof before loading the tree will help prevent paint scratches.

Bob Szuber, of Huron View Tree & Berry Farm says many people forget to load the tree with the stump facing forward.

After setting your tree on the car, tie it down with strong ropes or ratchet straps. Make sure to use the vehicles built–in anchor points.

Once you’ve made sure the tree won’t slide away, drive slightly slower than normal to prevent wind damage to the tree.
