211 is a free, easy-to-remember telephone number connecting people in need with people who can help 24/7.  It provides hope for many who are struggling and do not know where to turn. Our approach connects those in need with the information and services that can help and encourages those who want to offer help a means to do so.  Simply 2-1-1 enables communities to GET CONNECTED & GET ANSWERS.  211 has a significant impact on children, particularly those in low-income, working poor, families.  The percentage of families living in poverty has increased as Michigan’s unemployment rate reaches 15%.  68% of 2-1-1 callers are these working poor families dealing with basic quality of life items (food, diapers, clothing, rent, heating bills) for their children.   Many have never before had to navigate the maze of social service programs. They often become discouraged as they try to connect with available resources.
